Our Fees

About our Fees:

Many of the services provided by Centennial Law Corp. are offered on a “flat fee” basis. For example, we handle most real estate transactions, prepare most wills, create most powers of attorney and handle most incorporations on this basis. In other words, in most cases, you will know exactly how much you will be paying for our legal services. When the legal services which you require are more complex, however, we are often unable to predict the time needed for the tasks. In such cases, our fees will be calculated based on the time (in hours) spent on your file by the lawyer and/ or legal assistant handling the matter.

The general information below may also be useful in helping you to understand legal costs.

As you probably know, a lawyer's account usually specifies amounts payable in respect to both fees and disbursements (plus HST).

Fees:

The fee portion of an account reflects the firm’s compensation for professional services rendered. HST must be added to the fee.

Disbursements:

While working for you, we often find it necessary to incur expenses on your behalf. For example, if you buy a parcel of land, then the Land Title Office charges us to conduct a title search and register your title to a property. Likewise, when we prepare a will, the Department of Vital Statistics levies a charge when we file a Wills Notice. Lawyers generally refer to these "out of pocket" expenses as “disbursements.” HST is payable on some disbursements.

Talk to Us About Our Fees:

We encourage you to bring up any questions about fees, invoices, or expenses, at any time.

Retainers:

In many cases, we require a retainer before we begin work on your behalf. A retainer is a form of deposit.  It is placed into our trust account and used as a credit that is applied in payment of fees and disbursements as the work proceeds. The amount of the retainer depends on the work to be done.

Payment:

Our accounts are due upon your receipt of our invoice and interest accrues on the unpaid balance after 30 days unless other arrangements have been made. You may pay by cheque, cash, debit card, or credit card. Please contact us if you have any questions about our fees. We look forward to hearing from you.
